KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Just days before Brooke Morris's alleged killer turns himself in, family and friends gathered to remember the woman they lost to soon.

"You can't imagine what it feels like to go through something like this," Tina Gregg, Brooke Morris's mother said. "To bury a child at such an early age, in such a brutal and horrific murder."

Morris, 23, was found murdered in Roane County last October. She had been shot in the head.

Brook's friends and family released pink and white balloons into the air and held a special ceremony near Morris's grave at Lynnhurst Cemetery.

Gregg said that the company she keeps has helped her through the rough times.

"If I did not have my faith and my family and my friends, I could not have made it day-to-day," Gregg said.

A Roane County Grand Jury indicted Shawn Smoot for Morris's murder Tuesday. From the beginning, Smoot, who was also Morris's former boyfriend, was police's prime suspect.

Smoot is expected to turn himself in to authorities Monday.
