ATHENS (WATE) - A McMinn County man died Sunday afternoon after a shootout at a home near Athens.
Jason Howard, 36, was involved in a dispute with Jason Watson, 39, who lives in a camper behind a home on County Road 258 around 12:30 p.m.
Officials said the two men had been involved in a weeks-long dispute leading up to the incident. They said Howard and a woman named Jennifer White drove to Watson's home and shots were fired.
White began driving Howard to a hospital. Emergency officials met the pair on the way and took Howard to Athens Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
Sheriff Joe Guy said Howard was shot several times with a small caliber handgun. Officers also found a shotgun in the car White drove.
An investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened during the incident.
