KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville firefighters say they'll be able to continue a program that helps teach preschoolers about fire safety thanks to a donation they received Monday.

Members of the Local 65 Firefighters Union presented the Knoxville Fire Department with a check for $13,237.

Officials say the money helps fund the Learn Not to Burn program which reaches about 1,500 preschoolers each year.

"Without this donation its just something that we couldn't do right now," said Fire Chief Stan Sharp. "They've been supporting this Learn Not to Burn program for many years now, and they basically provide all the supplies we use for this program."

Local 65 has also donated several other pieces of equipment to the fire department over the years and made smoke detectors available to the public at no charge.
