OAK RIDGE (WATE) - Congress is another step closer to creating a new national park for preserving Manhattan Project sites like Oak Ridge.

Bills have now been filed in both the U.S. House and senate which would require the parks to be established within a year. A committee hearing on one of the bills is scheduled for June 28.

The park proposal would cover facilities at Y-12, K-25, the X-10 Reactor, the former guest house on Madison Road, as well as sites in Los Alamos, New Mexico and Hanford, Washington.
