CHATTANOOGA (AP) - Two Hamilton County men who are suing to stop county commission from opening sessions with prayer are seeking an injunction.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports an attorney for Tommy Coleman and Brandon Jones filed a motion Sunday, seeking a court order to bar the prayers until the lawsuit can be heard.
The lawsuit filed in federal court on June 15 contends the commission's practice violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
County Attorney Rheubin Taylor said he will seek outside counsel to defend against the lawsuit and cannot comment on it because he is named as a defendant.
The lawsuit is before Judge Harry S. Mattice. No hearing date has been set.
