RUTLEDGE (WATE) - Two Grainger County residents are facing charges after officials said they attempted to smuggle drugs into jail.

Brandon King, 28, was observed by deputies throwing an object into the yard at the Grainger County Detention Center.

Officials said the object was later found to be a lightbulb containing a narcotic strip that was designed to use under the tongue and three unidentified pills.

After throwing the lightbulb, King ran away, but was pursued by police.

Meanwhile, Deanna Mullins, 33, was observed by police to be speeding on a nearby road. After pulling her over, they determined that Mullins had given King a ride to the detention center.

Both are now facing charges.
