MORRISTOWN (WATE) - Hamblen County has been awarded a clean energy grant for a solar project that's part of a renovation in downtown Morristown.

The grant will be used to install an 11.73 kW solar PV project on the roof of the building at 144 W. Main Street, according to Rep. Don Miller (R-Morristown).

The project will use technology that can be installed within the design requirements of the Historic Zoning Commission and will add to the historic building's complete renovation.

"I'm proud that Morristown was awarded this grant as there has been extensive work taking place to try and modernize and update our existing historic structures," Miller said. "Renovating our assets, like buildings in our historic downtown, helps Hamblen County and our entire region when it comes to attracting tourism and new businesses."

Overall, the grant is part of $2.3 million in grants that are being provided to fund energy efficiency projects for local governments and municipalities, utilities, other organizations and private entities across Tennessee.

The Clean Tennessee Energy Grants were awarded to 17 recipients for projects designed to reduce air emissions, improve energy efficiency and create cost savings.

This marks the first time these grants have been made available.
