TVA cancels voluntary electric conservation in Northeast Tennessee

ROGERSVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Valley Authority and three power companies in Northeast Tennessee say consumers may return to normal use of electricity.

The request for voluntary conservation is canceled.

The utilities say in a press release Monday they appreciate the cooperation of consumers, which helped ensure a continued supply of power to essential services and avoided interruptions in service.

TVA has made some repairs following the fire at the John Sevier switchyard and transferred electrical load to other transmission lines. This relieved stress on the lines that were heavily loaded.

TVA's transmission system should be back to normal on Sunday, July 8, when repairs at the switchyard are due to be complete.

The region affected by the voluntary request for conservation is served by Johnson City Power Board, Erwin Utilities and Greeneville Light & Power System.
