ROGERSVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Supreme Court has temporarily suspended the law license of former Hawkins County General Sessions Court Judge James "Jay" Taylor.

The Board of Professional Responsibility petitioned the court for the temporary suspension due to Taylor's indictment in May in Davidson County on 41 counts of theft.

Between September 15, 2010 and July 27, 2011, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Taylor filed numerous fake claims with the Administrative Office of the Courts. He's accused of seeking payment for services as appointed legal counsel when he didn't perform such services.

Taylor may not accept new clients and must stop representing existing clients by July 29.

He's required to notify all clients in pending matters, along with co-counsel and opposing counsel about his suspended license.

The suspension remains in effect until the Supreme Court dissolves or modifies it. Taylor can petition the court to have that done.
