Fentress County teacher loses battle with cancer

JAMESTOWN (WATE) - A Fentress County elementary school teacher lost his battle with cancer on Monday.

James Franklin, 27, of Jamestown, passed away at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2008. Money was raised to fly him home from Houston after a new round of chemo didn't work.

Franklin was a sixth grade teacher at Allardt Elementary School. He taught there for four years.

He was also a lieutenant with the Fentress County Rescue Squad.

He's survived by his wife, Lucy Taylor Franklin; his father, Edward Sheldon Franklin and wife Debbie; his mother, Regina Gaddes Franklin; and his step-Brother, Shawn Brannon.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5 and Friday, July 6, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Allardt Elementary School gymnasium, 220 Portland Avenue.

The funeral service is Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the gym. The burial follows in Fentress Memorial Gardens.
