MAYNARDVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a woman will face DUI and other charges after she was involved in a head-on crash in Union County Wednesday night.
The crash happened around 9:00 p.m. on Maynardville Highway near Butler Road.
Amber Lee, 25, of Knoxville, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on the highway.
A THP report says the Explorer crossed into the northbound lane in an attempt to pass a vehicle, then veered onto the shoulder and swerved into oncoming traffic.
The Explorer struck a 2003 Lincoln Navigator driven by Lloyd Walker, 52, of New Tazewell, head-on.
The Navigator came to rest in the southbound shoulder and the Explorer rolled.
Lee and three children, including a pair of twins, in her vehicle were injured. One child remained conscious and pulled another from the Explorer. The third child was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed. All were taken to a hospital.
THP says none of the children were ejected, as previously reported. All the children were wearing seatbelts, but none were restrained in a proper car seat.
Walker's passenger, Debbie Walker, was also injured and taken to a hospital.
The THP says Lee's charges will include: driving on a suspended license,
vehicular assault, child restraint, improper passing, DUI and no
insurance.
