KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The American Red Cross opened three shelters in East Tennessee in response to Thursday's storms, the temperatures and power outages.

The shelters are available to anyone who needs shelter or a cool environment.

Full shelters with cots, food, and liquid refreshment are open in:

  • Knoxville - South Doyle High School, 2020 Tipton Station Road
  • Pigeon Forge - Community Center, 170 Community Center Drive
  • Jefferson City - Community Center, 1247 North Highway 92

If you have pets, the Pet Disaster Action Team will accept pets and shelter them at an off-site location, to ensure their comfort and safety. The Action Team is a group of animal care professionals and volunteers that partner with the Red Cross in times of disaster.

All shelters will be open at least overnight or as long as the need is present.
