SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A storm Thursday night destroyed Mountain Cove Marina on Douglas Dam. Several of the docks were blown into the shoreline, and several boats are missing.

Chasten Cobble, an assistant manager at the marina, was fixing one of the docks when the storm hit.

"It hit before we could get anywhere," said Cobble. "We ran around the houseboat dock making sure everyone was alright."

Cobble says the storm lasted for 45 minutes, leaving several people stranded.

"We managed to get the two people that were trapped off their boat," said Cobble. "They were two of our elderly clients. We managed to get them on the dock in the middle where it's safe."

Workers were able to shut off fuel pumps before the storm hit, but that did not stop Hazmat crews from going out Friday to make sure no fuel was spreading into Douglas Dam.

US Boats was helping boat owners tow their boats back to the shoreline.

"My boat is totaled," Clint Carnley said. "They said my boat's lucky to even be floating."

No one was hurt at the marina during the storm, and marina owners say it will take at least a year to rebuild everything.

"It looks like a tornado came here and hit, and stayed five minutes and then left," said Carnley. "It's devastating."

This is not the first time Mountain Cove Marina has been hit hard by a storm. The same thing happened 10 years ago.
