$4M gift to fund Tusculum science-math building

GREENEVILLE(AP) - A Kingsport widow is giving Tusculum College nearly $4 million to honor her late husband, although the couple had no previous connection to the institution.

The college will use the gift from Verna June Meen to help build a science and math center.

Meen donated the money in memory of her husband, Dr. Ronald H. Meen. He was an organic chemist with Eastman Chemical before his death in 2008.

She told The Greeneville Sun that neither she nor her husband had been associated with Tusculum. She said she selected the private college while looking for an institution that had a need and would be grateful for her donation.

Tusculum President Dr. Nancy B. Moody said the $15.5 million building will be named for the Meens.
