ATHENS (WATE) - An Athens man is being held in the McMinn County Jail after being accused of soliciting an underage girl for sex.
Joseph Michalowski,
53, is charged with 28 counts of
especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of exploitation
of a minor by electronic means and one count of solicitation to commit statutory
rape.
Michalowski's arrest came after an investigation by Athens police and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents. The arrest was made Sunday night near the corner of East Side Plaza in Athens by an undercover agent posing as the victim.
The victim's parents contacted authorities after discovering inappropriate conversations Michalowski allegedly had with their 13-year-old daughter. Explicit photos were also found.
Authorities say Michalowski
admitted to law enforcement that he asked the victim to meet him and engage in
sex.
