Barbourville pawn shop owner accused of trying to sell stolen property

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WATE) - A Barbourville pawn shop owner was arrested after he was accused of trying to sell stolen property.

Randy Hale, 43, was arrested at Vendors Mall in Barbourville, where he operates a pawn shop.

A Kentucky State trooper made the arrest after a man said his tiller had been stolen and he had discovered Hale was attempting to sell it at Vendors Mall.

'The victim said Hale refused to release the property, claiming him he had to purchase the tiller. 

During the trooper's investigation Hale was unable to provide information about who pawned the tiller or when it was pawned. 

State law requires all pawn shops to keep records on all pieces of property received for pawn, sale, or trade. 

When Hale was unable to provide documentation on the tiller he was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000, tampering with physical evidence, and failure for pawn broker to give ticket and receipt for article pawned.

 Hale is being held in the Knox County Detention Center.
