KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A severe thunderstorm that quickly rolled through portions of East Tennessee early Friday caused flooding, accidents and rockslides.
The storm caused hundreds of power outages across the Knoxville area. More than 3500 outages were reported at the height of the storm.
One of several accidents caused by the storm happened just before 1:30 a.m on Interstate 40 westbound, east of 17th Street.
A double tractor-trailer truck jackknifed and flipped on the highway. Several lanes of the interstate were blocked as crews worked to get the truck off the roadway.
The driver told police the truck began to skid during the heavy rainfall. As he attempted to correct the direction the rear trailer flipped over.
No other vehicles involved in the accident.
No one was injured and the driver was not ticketed.
Another weather-related accident happened around the same time on 17th Street and Grand Avenue when a vehicle crashed into a pole.
There is no word if anyone was injured that accident.
Several cars were stuck in high water from the storm. One incident was reported in the 200 block of Papermill Place Way around 1:15 a.m.
A car was stuck in water up to about the driver's knees.
The water quickly receded and firefighters pulled the car out of the way.
In all, Knoxville police responded to reports of 5-10 cars stuck in high water.
A couple road closures were reported in Morgan County because of the storm.
Crews were called around 1:30 a.m. to clean up a rockslide on on State Route 29 at Deer Lodge Highway. Both north and southbound lanes were closed.
The crews were able to get the debris cleaned up and reopened the road around 5 a.m.
Around 2 a.m. another rockslide was reported on State Route 62 at State Route 116.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says about one ton of debris fell onto the roadway there, blocking the left westbound lane of traffic.
The debris was cleaned up in about an hour.
