KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police say a grandfather accidentally struck his two-year-old grandson with a car Thursday afternoon in West Knoxville.
The child was identified as Jeremicah Mekenzie Hilizah.
The accident was reported at 3:10 p.m. at a residence at 1609 Autry Way.
According to the preliminary investigation, the grandfather, Julius Lila Hilizah, 40, was leaving for work when several children approached the vehicle to say goodbye.
Police say Jeremicah was still behind the vehicle when his grandfather started backing out of the driveway.
The grandfather pulled Jeremicah out from under the vehicle and drove him to UT Medical Center. He's being treated for serious injuries.
