RUTLEDGE (WATE) - Three male juveniles were arrested Friday on multiple theft and vandalism charges for allegedly damaging golf carts at a campground in Rutledge.

Numerous golf carts were first reported stolen and damaged at May Springs Campground on Thursday.

The Grainger County Sheriff's Office said sometime around 1:30 a.m., the suspects entered the campground, found a golf cart with a key and stole it. The suspects also used the key to take several other carts.

The officers found the carts driven all over the campground and rammed into each other. The carts were damaged, along with several signs and a mailbox.

Deputies responded to the campground again Friday around 3:30 a.m. for a report that a tenant caught three juveniles stealing a golf cart.

The sheriff's office said the suspects got in the campground by paddle boat, used the keys from the night before, stole eight carts and drove them around playing bumper cars, as well as vandalizing signs and other property.

Investigators believe two of the juveniles stole the carts the first night and all three were involved on Friday morning.

The juveniles were put in custody and taken to the Knox County Juvenile Detention Center.

Thirteen carts were taken on the two nights, along with campground property.
