KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville's newest Target opens in less than a week and it has unique layout for the area.
For instance, the store at Northshore Town Center will have an expanded beauty section and wide aisles.
"We've spent years developing this concept and we started it a year and a half ago," said store team leader Bobby Cox. "In our company, we've transformed 900 stores to this look and this is the first one here in Knoxville."
The expanded food layout design called Pfresh is also unique because it's the first one built as this type of store for hundreds of miles.
"You can see our new signage, which adds a lot of perishable items: produce, meat, fresh meat, deli selections, bakery selections to our store. Other than our super store in Knoxville, this will be the first store in Knoxville to have those items," Cox explained.
There is fresh meat, but there isn't a deli counter and the bakery section is smaller than at a Super Target.
"The design of this store is supposed to make it easier for shoppers," Cox said. "So let's say you're in the baby section, you'll find strollers, cribs, even baby snacks, all in the same part of the store."
The pharmacy is now at the front of the store, and like the small appliances section it has shorter aisles.
"We dropped our aisles down to five feet instead of seven feet, so our guests can see over another aisle if they're looking for something," Cox said.
Several sections are organized differently to make it easier for shoppers to find what they need.
As Cox described, "The Super Target is set up so that it has a Target and a grocery store. So we kind of tried to take the best of both worlds and add it to the items you need every day to make a meal for your family so that's what we've done here."
He says Target's goal is to make sure the level of customer service is unmatched by any other store.
The store opens on Sunday, July 29. About 150 new jobs were created to operate it.
