MARYVILLE (WATE) - Hundreds of hopefuls filled the National Guard Armory in Maryville Tuesday to get a step ahead in a new career. More than 30 companies met with potential employees at a job fair in Blount County.
Getting a job hasn't been easy the past few years, and finding one that makes you happy in addition to paying the bills can be even harder.
However, employers are starting to hand out applications in Blount County.
"It's so exciting to have all these people here. The way the economy has been, it's just wonderful to have them all here in one place where everyone can go to them. It's just a great experience," said job-seeker Carol Harrison.
With so many employers looking for fresh faces, each hoped to get people into jobs they will love.
"I have several friends of mine that are still currently looking. I've let them know about the career fair today and I've actually see people come out today that I've told about it. So hopefully they'll come out today and find something that matches their personality and their skill level," said Lisa Mills, who works with Jewelry TV.
Creating and filling jobs is also at the top of lawmakers' to-do lists. "What I keep hearing about is that jobs is our number one priority right now. People are concerned about jobs. They may have a part time job and would like to move into a full time job, or they might just like a better job," said state Sen. Doug Overbey, (R-Maryville).
Some job-seekers are optimistic after the job fair, and looking forward to hearing from employers. "Hopefully very soon, I do expect to hear back this week possibly," Harrison said.
