MEMPHIS (AP) - Election officials in Shelby County continue to struggle with incorrect ballots as early voting winds down.
According to The Commercial Appeal, voting database expert Dr. Joe Weinberg said 5.4% of voters who cast early ballots within Shelby County have been confronted with incorrect ones, largely the result of redistricting. Weinberg said more than 2,300 voters have been affected.
The Shelby County Election Commission sought Weinberg's help in identifying the problems.
Many of the improper ballots are in uncontested races, but more than 300 of them have showed up in the District 93 contest involving current state representatives Mike Kernell and G.A. Hardaway.
Through Wednesday, 41,595 votes had been cast. Election officials said 51.4% of voters asked for a Republican ballot and 46.3% voted Democrat.
