MARYVILLE (WATE) - An organizer says community fundraising efforts helped save the home of a Maryville Army veteran and his family.
The mortgage company was paid $6,000 which stopped the planned auction of Stuart Duke's home about three hours before it was scheduled on July 24.
Organizer Hubert Queen says there's $3,000 left in the account at Y-12 Federal Credit Union and more in an account at SunTrust set up by the Relative Caregivers group the Dukes are with. That money will be used to pay the mortgage until it runs out.
