LOUDON (WATE) – With the new school year just around the corner, a group of parents gathered in Loudon County to pray for students and the year ahead.
Dozens of parents and community members gathered at Loudon High School for a community prayer walk. Their hope is that God will push out evils like drugs and bullying of local schools.
"We ask you, oh Lord, to ban all alcohol, all drugs, and all sexual addictions from our children," Sheila Massey said as she led the group in prayer.
Massey and another mom, Melissa Tallent, came up with the idea for the walk after discussing how much evil kids were exposed to these days.
"It's come to a point where our children are in real danger, as far as the world we're living in," Tallent said.
After they prayed, the group walked around campus, some loudly praising Jesus as they did. Tallent says they want school children everywhere to know they are cared for.
"They need to know we love them and care about them. And they're not alone, we're lifting them up," Tallent said.
The group says they intend to make it a point to pray every Monday for this cause.
A prayer walk for Hawkins County school students is planned for this weekend. It will be held Sunday, 2-4 p.m. at each of the county's schools.
Participants are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate.
