KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A pedestrian was critically injured Tuesday morning when he was struck by a car while crossing a West Knoxville road.

Thomas Sanders, 19, of Knoxville, was hit on Papermill Drive near Papermill Pointe Way at 10:02 a.m. 

According to witness statements and the police investigation, Sanders darted across Papermill Drive between vehicles and into the path of an eastbound 1999 Buick Park Avenue.

Police say the driver of the Buick, Patricia Worthington Carmichael, 68, of Blaine, couldn't stop before hitting Sanders.

He was taken to UT Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Carmichael wasn't injured.
