MARYVILLE (WATE) - An Athens man was arrested and charged Monday in connection with a methamphetamine investigation in Blount County.
Investigators with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force learned that a suspicious person was trying to buy pseudoephedrine with an out of state driver's license at a business.
They stopped Kenneth Lee Morgan, 36, for a traffic violation on U.S. 411 south. The Blount County Sheriff's Office said Morgan showed officers a Tennessee driver's license, which was different than the one he used in the store.
During July, Morgan allegedly used two driver's licenses from different states to buy almost double the amount of pseudoephedrine allowed by federal law. Only nine grams may be purchased during a 30-day period.
The officers said they found pseudoephedrine and lithium batteries in Morgan's vehicle.
Morgan is charged with promoting the manufacture of meth. A passenger with him was released with no charges.
Morgan is being held in the Blount County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He's scheduled to be in court on August 8.
