MARYVILLE (WATE) - Blount County sheriff's officers arrested a Knoxville man Monday after seizing 8.75 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop.
Early Monday morning, a deputy stopped a Chrysler Town & Country van on U.S. Highway 321 east near American RV Sales and Service. The sheriff's office said the driver, Oscar Sanchez-Torres, 34, ran a stop sign at Tuckaleechee Pike and Highway 321.
Sanchez-Torres agreed to let the deputy search the van. A K-9 alerted on the outside and deputies said they found 8.75 pounds of marijuana in it.
Investigators with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force also responded to the scene.
Sanchez-Torres is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to resell, within 1,000 feet of a school zone.
The sheriff's office said Sanchez-Torres drove through the school zone at Heritage High before he ran the stop sign.
He's being held in the Blount County Detention Facility. Bond has not yet been set. He's scheduled to be court on August 8.
