KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Small businesses in the Knoxville area are getting ready for a state tax-free weekend.
Workers at Fizz were making sure the store looks great Tuesday. They were stocking shelves for the weekend crowds.
"We're expecting a bigger crowd because it is tax-free weekend. We have a lot of clothes and accessories to offer for back-to-school wear," said Kali Watson, a Fizz employee.
The employees like to keep the store clean, organized and easy to navigate with displays around the store.
"People are usually looking for back-to-school clothes, outfits, everything that matches. It's usually a rush so anything we already have put together," Watson said.
Crass Couture is also preparing for the big weekend.
"There's definitely a pick up in the crowd. People get excited. It can get a little crazy," said Kristi Lannon, owner of Crass Couture.
In addition to extended hours and more hands on deck, the store is offering a sale of 10 percent off the total purchase.
Lannon said the extra incentive is her way to give back to the shoppers and give them more of a reason to shop at Crass Couture.
"People already have in mind what their favorite stores are and they go to those stores during the tax-free weekend. It's a definite boost for us and for all of downtown, honestly, and that's what I care about. Even the malls. It's just crazy. It's really good," Lannon said.
This year's tax free holiday weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and ends on Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
Most clothing and school supplies under $100 and computers under $1500 qualify to be tax-free.
More details on what qualifies can be found on the Tennessee sales tax holiday website.
