ONEIDA (WATE) - Vandals have targeted the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area for a third time.
Park officials said Tuesday vandals had smashed and destroyed a bathroom, including sinks and toilets, at the Yahoo Falls parking lot in the area. The incident happened sometime in the previous two days.
The damage is estimated to cost thousands of dollars to repair.
"At this point we do not know when we will able to reopen the bathroom," said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas in a press release. "We are considering a number of options including replacing the bathroom with port-a-potties. It is unfortunate that money from other projects will now have to be used to repair the senseless destruction."
Officials said Yahoo Falls is one of most scenic and most frequented areas on the Kentucky side of the park.
They stressed that money spent repairing the bathrooms will take away from other park projects.
Park workers are asking for the public to keep their eyes peeled for suspicious activity to help put a stop to the continued vandalism.
