SHARPS CHAPEL (WATE) - Union County deputies say they need the public's help to catch a man who broke into a home and shot the owner during a struggle.

The homeowner, Chelsea Keck, 20, told investigators she heard someone in her home Wednesday just after noon. She lives on Brewer Hollow Road in Sharps Chapel.

Keck was in a back bedroom and said at first, she thought she heard a family member. When she grew more suspicious, she got a .22 rifle and went to investigate.

That's when deputies say Keck found a man trying to steal her television. They say Keck and intruder struggled and he managed to get the gun away from her and shoot her in the shoulder. The bullet went through Keck's shoulder into the wall and wound up in a closet.

Keck said the suspect ran out the front door.

She was treated at a hospital.

She said the suspect is a white male about 6'0" tall with a slim build. It's believed he's driving a red Toyota pickup truck. If you have any information, call 865-992-2019.
