ERWIN (AP) - There is a mistrial of state charges against a former East Tennessee sheriff.

The Johnson City Press reported jurors told the judge they were deadlocked on charges against Kent Harris, the former sheriff of Unicoi County.

Harris was being tried in Erwin on two of 10 felony counts against him - theft over $1,000 and criminal simulation.

The jury got the case Wednesday night and told Special Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood they could not reach a verdict on Thursday morning.

Blackwood set Dec. 10 as the date for a new trial in the case.
