LENOIR CITY (WATE) - Former Roane County Commissioner Kent Calfee defeated Republican state Rep. Julia Hurley.
Complete Election Results
"You win some. You lose some," Hurley tweeted. "I can sleep tonight knowing I didn't run a negative campaign and I gave all I had."
District 32 includes Roane County and part of Loudon County.
Hurley got some attention during her first term over incidents like carving her initials into a desk in the House chamber. She was also kicked out of the Roane County Courthouse for bringing in her dog, although pets aren't allowed.
Calfee, who is retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, said he wants to restore dignity and professionalism to the House seat.
He'll face Democrat Jack McNew and independent Alan Cole in November.
