KINGSTON (WATE) - Independent challenger David Morgan won over incumbent Teresa Kirkham Thursday in the controversial race for Roane County property assessor.

Roane County Election Results

Morgan took 41 percent of the votes. Kirkham had 35 percent of the vote and Steven Robinette had 18 percent of the votes cast in a race that took several controversial turns.

In July, Kirkham and Morgan were involved in a dispute after Morgan claimed Kirkham threatened him outside the county courthouse.

Two other candidates were on the ballot, though they didn't campaign. Cheryl Laxton dropped out of the race and J.T. Woods shot and killed himself in June at the home of Kirkham in Kingston.
