KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Roger Kane claimed the victory Thursday night for the new state House District 89, besting former Knox County Sheriff Tim Hutchison.

Kane, a Knox County insurance agent, won by about seven percent of the vote over Hutchison.

There were two other candidates in the Republican primary, retired Knox County Housing Authority Director Bo Pierce and financial analyst Joey McCaulley.

The legislature redrew the voting districts earlier this year. That created the 89th District, located in the western portion of the county. It stretches from Lonsdale to parts of Concord.

There were no Democrats in the race after court rulings disallowed Shelley Breeding from the race, saying she lives in Anderson County, not in the district.
