KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Tennessee's annual sales tax holiday is underway once again.
The event is held every year on the first Friday in August and ends the following Sunday night.
It allows Tennessee shoppers to purchase a wide range of items without paying state and local sales tax on those purchases.
This year's tax-free holiday weekend began at 12:01 a.m on Friday and will continue to Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
Not all items are exempt from sales tax during the weekend, but it doesn't matter if the items are purchased in stores, over the phone or online.
Exempt items include clothing with a price of $100 or less per item, school and school art supplies with a price of $100 or less per item and computers with a price of $1,500 or less.

Local governments are reimbursed by the state for lost sales tax revenues during the weekend.
State officials say Tennesseans save $8 to $10 million in tax payments each holiday weekend.
