LENOIR CITY (WATE) - A project to replace a bridge in Loudon County where traffic tie-ups are common is scheduled to get underway Tuesday.

Crews will be building a new four-lane bridge at Fort Loudoun Dam. The new bridge will also have two lanes for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The project includes several bridges, as well as adjustments to U.S. Highway 321.

The current bridge over the dam is owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority and is two lanes wide. It will be demolished after the new bridge is built.

The new bridge will be owned by the state.

Preparations have already been underway in that area.

Tennessee Department of Transportation officials have warned drivers to expect delays.

The total cost of the project is just over $69 million.

The target completion date is May 2015.
