Monroe County man dies after fall at Bald River Falls

MADISONVILLE (WATE) - A Monroe County man died after he fell from the Bald River Falls waterfall on July 28 and was rescued from the water.

Several people worked together to rescue Ralph Ray, Jr., of Ten Mile, from below the waterfall. Sheriff's officers arrived and helped get Ray out of the water.

Ray was unresponsive so an officer began CPR, with the help of an off-duty firefighter.

The sheriff's office said they did CPR for about 15 minutes when more emergency responders arrived. Ray was put on a backboard, moved to the bank and medical personnel took over his CPR.

Ray was eventually flown to UT Medical Center where he later died.

The sheriff's office believes that Ray was about halfway up the waterfall when he fell. Several witnesses said he may have hit his head before he went in the water.
