Dooley sees improvement in Tennessee running gam

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Derek Dooley saw signs of an improved running game at the Volunteers' first preseason scrimmage.

Junior Rajion Neal led the way with 134 yards rushing on nine carries, including a 68-yard touchdown run, according to the stats provided by Tennessee.

The scrimmage was closed to the media and fans.

Neal said the offensive line opened up plenty of lanes for running backs on Saturday. The Vols finished with 301 rushing yards on 46 carries.

Dooley praised the team's attitude, competitiveness, toughness and effort in the "120-something" play scrimmage, but said there were a lot of issues to fix, especially with "knick-knack" penalties and substitutions.
