DANDRIDGE (WATE) - A Carson-Newman student was killed and another student was injured Sunday in a wreck on Interstate 40 near Dandridge.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says Evan Nathaniel Loggins, 21, of Forsyth, Ga., was driving eastbound on I-40 when his Toyota 4-Runner veered to the right.

As he tried to return the SUV to the road, Loggins over-corrected and it flipped. The vehicle rolled over three times before landing on its top.

Witnesses say Loggins was ejected from the SUV on the first roll.

A passenger, Alyssa Crum, 18, of Greeneville, was injured in the wreck. She was treated at a hospital and released.

The trooper said Loggins was not wearing a seatbelt and Crum was wearing hers.

Carson-Newman said Loggins would have been a sophomore physical education major. He played football for the college previously, but was not going to play this season.

Crum is a sophomore psychology major at Carson-Newman.
