GREENEVILLE (WATE) - Greene County Commission voted 10-7 Monday to approve a 20-cent tax increase, saving an elementary school.

Greene County Schools Director Vicki Kirk said 15 cents of the increase will go toward the school system. She said the increase will also allow Glenwood Elementary School to remain open.

The board of education meets Monday night to approve a new budget, making up a $1.2 million deficit.

The balanced budget will allow school to start Wednesday.

School was originally slated to start August 8 in Greene County, but budget issues delayed it for a week.
