Roving volunteers for leaf season needed in Smokies

GATLINBURG (AP) - An autumn volunteer post could be just a walk in the park at the height of fall colors.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is seeking volunteers for the fall foliage season. They will rove the area around the Oconaluftee Visitor Center to guide visitors. The volunteers will be asked to walk the areas along the River Trail, the Mountain Farm Museum and fields along Newfound Gap Road.

They will have information on park history, fall foliage viewing and park regulations.

Each volunteer will be asked to rove for about four hours prior to sunset on the same day each week. The need is from late August until Nov. 10, and one five-hour training session is required.

Information is available at (828) 497-1904.
