Teen defends boy from dog mauling in Knox County

KARNS (WATE) - A Knox County boy is in the hospital after a teen tried to save him Sunday night from a dog attack.

The attack happened at a Beaver Ridge home just before 10 p.m.

Knox County deputies say six-year-old Julian King was playing in the front yard of his uncle's home with 13-year-old Matthew Maxwell.

Maxwell told deputies he thought he closed a backyard gate when he went to get a bicycle. He said that's when the dog burst through the gate and grabbed King.

The teen tried to fight off the dog and carry King to safety. When that didn't work, Maxwell threw himself on top of King to try and protect him.

King suffered lacerations to his head and multiple puncture wounds to his body.

The dog didn't bite Maxwell, but the teen has deep bruising.

The Great Dane was surrendered to Young-Williams Animal Shelter.
