MARYVILLE (WATE) - A Maryville teen was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 411 in Blount County. The other driver died early Wednesday morning.
The crash was at the intersection of the highway and Binfield Road at 3:44 p.m.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 1999 Chrysler Sebring driven by John C. Perkins, 44, of Maryville, crossed the center line and hit 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Amelia Keown, 16.
Officials said a trooper clocked Perkins going 73 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. The trooper was trying to turn around and pursue Perkins when the Chrysler hit Keown's car.
Keown was pronounced dead at the scene.
Perkins died early Wednesday morning at a local hospital.
Jane Morton with Blount County Schools said Keown was a student at William Blount High School. Morton said additional counselors including a chaplain from the Blount County Sheriff's Office were at the school Wednesday providing support for students and staff.
