ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WATE) - Five days into their first-ever preseason football camp at Milligan College, it's evident Tennessee coaches are actually happy campers.

"We had some great practices yesterday (and) today was very competitive," said offensive coordinator Jim Chaney.

"It's interesting, there are some good football players out there flying around the football. So that was fun. Today we came out a little sluggish but we got better as the day went on.

"Like I say, I'm in a pretty good frame of mind right now. I think the guys are doing what we've asked them to do and they're responding what we want them to do. So I am good with that."

Chaney is one of the only coaching holdovers from last season.

He is guiding an offense that includes a player of the year candidate at quarterback, three receivers who may possess NFL caliber ability and a front line that is big and getting better.

The feel-good vibe hasn't been confined to the offense.

"We found some people that can rush the quarterback. We found some people that can cover. They're just doing a nice job right now," added defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri.

"They're working on it. They're concentrating on it. So it's been pretty good."

The Vols will practice at Milligan College twice on Wednesday.

The team returns to Knoxville on Thursday.
