Vols feel like third graders

KNOXVILLE (AP) - Tennessee sophomore outside linebacker Curt Maggitt said the Volunteers acted like "third graders on the last day of school" when the team found out its final practice at Milligan College was canceled Wednesday night.

Instead of practicing, the Vols boarded buses for the two-hour ride back to campus a day early.

Coach Derek Dooley said the move was to reward the team for a great week of camp and to give players added time to recover physically.

The Vols had a night practice Thursday and will have their second and final major scrimmage of fall camp on Friday.

Dooley said Friday will be more of a situational scrimmage rather than game-like. Senior inside linebacker Herman Lathers (soreness) and senior tight end Mychal Rivera (knee sprain) won't participate.
