MORRISTOWN (WATE) - A Morristown man died Friday in the Vanderbilt University Burn Center after he was seriously injured Thursday morning when his van exploded.
Police identified the man as Erich Dietz, 77.
A Morristown Fire Department spokesperson says the man suffered severe burns when his van exploded at Autumn Trace Apartments.
He was taken to UT Medical Center first before being transferred to Vanderbilt.
An investigation is continuing into the explosion, but the fire department spokesman said there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious about it.
Three men working nearby on a roof pulled the man to safety after the explosion. Another explosion happened as firefighters arrived.
Police said they found a gas can and gas-powered leaf blower in the back of the van.
