PIONEER (AP) - A five-month long traffic tie-up in Campbell County ended Friday morning with the reopening of a stretch of Interstate 75.
Tennessee Transportation Commissioner John Schroer, along with other state and local officials, cut a ribbon and reopened the last lane that had been closed on I-75 following an embankment collapse in March.
The outside southbound lane has been closed at the Stinking Creek Road exit since the collapse. Other lanes have been closed and traffic rerouted at various times because of work in the area to repair damage.
Interstate traffic was slowed and sometimes halted near the heavily-traveled area near the Kentucky border.
Tennessee Department of Transportation opened one southbound lane in June. Until then, all southbound traffic was rerouted on winding U.S. 25 through the mountainous county.
