Tennessee congressmen deny taking part in nude swim during Israel trip

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Two East Tennessee congressmen were part of a trip to Israel, but their offices say they didn't participate in the reported wild behavior that prompted an FBI investigation.

A report on Politico says one congressman on the trip, Rep. Kevin Yoder, of Kansas, stripped off his clothes and jumped into the Sea of Galilee.

Others reportedly took part in the late-night swim, but remained clothed.

Rep. Yoder apologized Monday for any embarrassment he may have caused.

Reps. Scott DesJarlais and Chuck Fleischmann, of Tennessee, also took part in the trip.

A spokesman tells 6 News that Congressman DesJarlais was "not involved in the incident in question."

Congressman Fleischmann's office says he "neither participated nor was aware of any of the activities cited by Politico."

6 News was told Fleischmann was on a conference call and then he and his wife turned in for the night. His office says he hasn't been questioned by any federal agency about the trip.
