KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Wednesday is the first day of fall semester classes at the University of Tennessee, and some students say they have the same jitters as in elementary school.

Freshmen are out and about with maps in hand, while more seasoned students rushed to beat the clock for their first class of the day.

"On the map it looks huge, but once you get out and walk around you realize it's actually not that spread out and you can get to places pretty easily," said freshman Caroline Baker.

"I have an advanced art history class and then with Asian Art, so that should be a little different," said junior Cameron Kite. "Then I have a 300 level welding class and I got opted out of the previous class to do this class so I'm pretty excited about it."

"I've been at UT for awhile so I kind of know the ins and outs of it, and also it does seem like there's more parking available," said first year law student Natalie Greene. "I don't know why, maybe because it is because it's early. But whatever the reason, I'm glad I found a spot."

Even long time administrators are looking forward to another first day. "I've been teaching and being an administrator for 42 years, and every first day is exciting," said Honors Program Administrator Bruce Wheeler.

He's also fired up because of the academic accomplishments of this year's freshmen class. "I had a chance to meet a few of them last night and they are blazingly smart, interesting kids. And they've got a good sense of humor."

It's not just classes that students are anticipating. "I'm excited for my first Tennessee football game, for sure. I'm from Maryland so I haven't gone to one yet," Baker said.
