ROCKWOOD (WATE) - A puppy at the center of an animal cruelty case in Roane County has been adopted.

Roane County Animal Shelter Director John Griffin said the puppy, which the staff named "Sugar," was adopted Wednesday by a young couple who lives in the county.

Jack Lee Chesser, Jr., 41, was arrested on August 16 and charged with cruelty to animals after a witness said Chesser threw the gasoline-covered puppy out the passenger window of a moving pickup truck.

Kingston police took the puppy to a veterinarian. Then it was turned over to Roane County Animal Control and the animal shelter.

Griffin said the couple adopted Sugar because they saw the 6 News report on Chesser's charges.

Another puppy from the same litter was brought to the shelter Tuesday. She was named "Spice" and adopted by a different couple on Wednesday.
